WASHINGTON, DC (July 6, 2017)— Amita N. Vyas, PhD, MHS, has been appointed by the editors and editorial board as the new editor-in-chief of Women's Health Issues, the peer-reviewed journal of the Jacobs Institute of Women’s Health (Jacobs Institute) at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH).
Dr. Vyas is an Associate Professor of Prevention and Community Health at Milken Institute SPH and directs the school's maternal and child health program. She is an expert in multi-level research methods and evaluation, and her work focuses on the health and well-being of women and adolescents, including teen pregnancy prevention, social media use and health, gender-based violence, and family planning.
She assumes the role from Chloe E. Bird, PhD, whose term as editor-in-chief began in January 2014. Dr. Bird will continue to serve as an associate editor of the journal.
“We thank Dr. Bird for her years of service to the journal and to women's health research, including overseeing an impressive increase in the number of articles the journal publishes and raising the journal’s profile,” said Susan F. Wood, PhD, Professor of Health Policy and Management and Director of the Jacobs Institute. “In addition, we welcome Dr. Vyas to her new position. Her focus on addressing the social determinants of health for women and girls is critical to address health disparities and to promote health equity. She will continue to expand the journal's reach in publishing rigorous, high-impact research on women's health."
Dr. Vyas assumed her new role at the journal on July 1, 2017.

Women’s Health Issues, which is published by Elsevier, is dedicated to improving the health and health care of women throughout the lifespan. The journal and the Jacobs Institute are based in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Milken Institute SPH.
