WASHINGTON, DC (Jan. 28, 2019) — Women's Health Issues welcomes to its editorial board three new members with expertise in a variety of aspects of women's health: Madina Agénor, ScD, MPH, of Tufts University; Tracy A. Battaglia, MD, MPH, of Boston University School of Medicine; and Lisa Harris, MD, PhD, of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Women’s Health Issues is the official journal of the Jacobs Institute of Women’s Health, which is based at Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH) at the George Washington University.

Madina Agénor, ScD, MPH, is Gerald R. Gill Assistant Professor of Race, Culture, and Society in the Department of Community Health at Tufts University, where she is also Director of the Sexual Health and Reproductive Experiences (SHARE) Lab. As a social epidemiologist and health services researcher, she investigates health and health care inequities in relation to various dimensions of social inequality – especially sexual orientation, gender identity, and race/ethnicity – using an intersectional lens. Specifically, her research seeks to elucidate the social and policy determinants of sexual and reproductive health and cancer screening and prevention among socially and economically marginalized populations, especially women and girls of color, sexual minority women and girls, transgender and non-binary individuals, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people of color.

Tracy A. Battaglia, MD, MPH, is Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at Boston University School of Medicine, where she serves as the Director of the Women’s Health Unit, a Department of Health and Human Services-designated Center of Excellence in Women’s Health. She has 17 years of experience designing, implementing, and evaluating community-engaged Patient Navigation programs to reduce delays across the continuum of cancer care, including co-leading the Boston site of the National Cancer Institute's national Patient Navigation Research Program. As Director of the Community Engagement Program for the Boston University Clinical and Translational Science Award, she is leading a cooperative study funded by the National Center to Advance Translational Science (NCATS) to support a City-wide dissemination study to reduce breast cancer disparities through a patient navigation network.

Lisa Harris, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Women’s Studies and Associate Chair of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Her research examines issues at the intersection of clinical obstetrical and gynecological care and law, policy, politics, ethics, history, and sociology. She conducts interdisciplinary, mixed methods research on many issues along the reproductive justice continuum, including abortion, miscarriage, contraception, in vitro fertilization (IVF), infertility and birth, and racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in access to reproductive health resources.

“We are delighted to have these three accomplished women's health scholars join the editorial board of Women’s Health Issues,” said Amita Vyas, Editor-in-Chief of the journal and Associate Professor of Prevention and Community Health at Milken Institute SPH. "Their expertise in health disparities and reproductive justice will be assets to the journal as we examine the policies and practices that affect women's opportunities to access patient-centered care, control their reproductive lives, and pursue good health."
